With experience running a small business and navigating the world of social media, I’m here to help you manage your business experience in the digital space.
Ever feel like as small business owners, we’re bombarded with advice left, right, and center? From our friend who’s a social media whiz to that distant cousin who swears by the latest digital trends – it’s a lot to take in. And one word that seems to echo in every conversation? Consistency. “Stay consistent on social media,” they say. But why? What’s the big deal?
As an Instagram Coach, I can confidently say that posting consistently on social media is the secret sauce to creating a strong brand identity and enhancing engagement. But, we’re never taught why consistency is important in the first place. That is precisely what I intend to answer in this blog post.
So, grab your coffee (or wine), because we’re getting down to the nitty-gritty of why consistency is so important for your social media presence.
Be honest with me – we’ve all followed that one individual or business that posts for a month straight and then vanishes into thin air. Sound familiar? Is this you, too?
We’ve all been there. You’re pumped up with amazing ideas, bursting at the seams to post your new ideas. How many times have you hit “post” on a Reel, convinced it’s going to go viral, only to get like, two likes? And suddenly, you’re like, ‘Is it even worth posting again?
Trust me, I’ve been there too many times. Here’s the thing: even that Reel with just a couple of likes is contributing to something much bigger for your business. Why, you ask? Because it’s all part of a comprehensive marketing strategy. You’re not just throwing one Reel out there, crossing your fingers for it to go viral, and then disappearing into the digital abyss. Or at least, I hope not
Think of consistent posting as the glue that binds relationships. When your followers see you consistently showing up in their feeds, it fosters a sense of reliability and trust. By consistently delivering valuable content, you establish yourself as an expert in your niche, which in turn enhances your credibility among your followers.
The old cliché, “out of site, out of mind” really hits home here. In the fast-paced world of social media, we are bombarded with new information every single day. Consistent posting ensures that your brand remains visible amidst all the noise, keeping you at the forefront of your audience’s mind.
Now, I want to take a quick pause before we head into the other points. Consistency does NOT mean posting every single day. Consistency, in fact, means posting at a regular level that matches YOUR schedule. Sometimes, that means only posting two times per week – and if that works for you, then I saw GO for it.
The last thing you want is to burn yourself out by trying to keep up with an unsustainable posting schedule. Trust me, I’ve been there, and it’s not pretty. So instead, take a moment to craft a posting schedule that aligns with your energy, creativity, and capacity. Your followers will appreciate quality over quantity any day.
Okay, back to our regular scheduled program.
If you’ve been following along with me for a while, you know that I’m not going to bend over backward to the algorithm. In fact, I say give it the big middle finger.
However, when your audience knows when to expect new content from you, they’re more likely to actively engage with it. Whether it’s likes, comments, or shares, regular posting keeps your audience engaged and invested in your brand, leading to increased interaction and community building.
Your social media presence is an extension of your brand identity. This is the prime online location for your followers and future customers to get to know you and your brand. By maintaining a consistent posting schedule, you reinforce your brand identity and make a lasting impression on your audience.
So, if you haven’t noticed yet, my business is pretty centered around consistency because of all these reasons I just listed. Staying consistent, whether that’s one time per week or seven, you are creating an online presence that actively represents your brand. By maintaining a regular posting schedule, you can build trust, stay top-of-mind, appease algorithms, foster engagement, establish brand identity, drive traffic, and adapt to the ever-evolving landscape of social media. So, the next time you wonder, “What’s so important about consistency, anyways?” remember that it’s the secret ingredient that can elevate your social media presence from good to great.
